I started writing this blog to help give people the practical knowledge that they don’t really get in school. In my job I get to see so many people coming into the business world making all kinds of mistakes. They don’t know they are mistakes because no one has ever told them what they should or shouldn’t do. But it’s more than just that. You can move on after giving a bad interview but making mistakes in how you start setting yourself up for life are a lot harder to come back from. So many things have a time frame in which you need to start addressing them to get a decent benefit. Only a miniscule amount of people have a sudden financial windfall that helps them out. The majority of us need to plan for what we need.
This is especially true for women. Women get paid less than men and often have the care of small children or aging parents. This can make it very hard to set yourself up for a comfortable retirement. It can make it hard just to pay your bills. However, it’s not just the pay gap that hurts women, it’s the wealth gap resulting from the pay gap, that can have lasting detrimental effects. Robert Reich has an excellent video on Inequality Media that talks about the issues women face. We have to understand what is really happening before we can begin to address. Watch this short video to understand what is really being done to you.
