Bricklaying as a Trade

Bricklayer as a Trade

I recently read an article on NPR about the need for trade jobs.  It said there are some 30 million jobs that have an average pay of $55,000 a year.  Those jobs are in trade.  You don’t need a bachelor’s degree to get them.  Everyone pushes a college education but a college education is not for everyone.  That doesn’t mean you will have to spend your life flipping burgers.  There are options out there.  Good paying options.

I’ve inserted a short video that isn’t really a day in the life kind of video but gives some decent information on bricklaying.  Some of these trades are things people don’t really hear about all the time.  Sure we know that someone builds those brick buildings and someone puts the brick veneer on our homes but we don’t really thing past that.  Masonry is an old trade that is still highly valuable today.  Take a few minutes to watch the video to see if this may be the field for you.

I also recommend reading the NPR article about the need for people in trade.  It gives a good idea of the direction the job market is moving towards.  So many people say they can’t find a job.  What they can’t find is a job in the field they trained in mostly because so many others trained in that same field.  Don’t get stuck in that rut.  Trade jobs can be very rewarding not only in the sense of accomplishment that they give but in the pay also.
